Could this be excema? If so, what's the recommended treatment? - Gene in Pasadena, California The Pediatrician Answers: The condition you describe could be eczema or psoriasis. It might also merely be due to dryness of the skin. Your child's physician can help differentiate these conditions. For eczema, steroid ointments may be used for immediate improvement, but long-term control is through use of moisturizers and avoidance of factors that may may the condition worse. Some children have specific allergies that cause the eczema; avoiding these generally improves the problem.
