by Jennifer S. Martin
Trying to find a Father's Day gift for the dad who has everything? Well why not help your kids make him something from the heart? Here are three craft ideas to make this Father's Day extra special!
Father's Day is almost here again and if your family is anything like ours,
it is hard to find a present for the man who has everything. After all, he
already has a perfect child or children and a stunning wife! What more could
the guy ask for?
Well in all honesty, we know the man we married and the father of our
children deserves something extra special on Father's Day. How about
something handmade? This will show you and your children's love in only the
way a handmade gift can. Below are three crafty ideas to use to make
Father's Day Gifts. Feel free to improvise on the craft and make it just
right for that special man in your life.
Here are instructions to make a cozy pillow for Dad to place his tired head
on after a long day at work.
What you'll need:
Pillow form
Enough material to cover chosen pillow form size
Felt
Paper
Pencil
Pins
Hot glue gun and hot glue
Fabric paints
Sewing machine/needle and thread (optional)
What you'll do:
1. Cut out fabric, sized to fit over the pillow form like a pillow case,
making sure to leave a ¼ inch seam allowance for either gluing or sewing.
Right sides together, sew or hot glue the seam on three of the sides. Turn
right side out.
2. Place pillow form inside the pillow cover. Hand-sew or hot glue the last
seam shut.
3. Trace your children's hands onto paper. Cut around the handprints and
place them on to the felt. Pin them down and cut out your child's handprint
from the felt. Repeat with other handprints.
4. Hot glue felt handprint to pillow cover. Once dry and cool, add
decorative touches to pillow with fabric paint such as the child's name, date
and age on the felt hand and "Happy Father's Day" at the top of the pillow.

Songs For Daddy
Does the Daddy in your life have a tiring commute or long business hours at
the office? Chances are he could use some cheering up. The following craft,
a tape of songs sung by the kiddos, is sure to raise his spirits on the
gloomy days.
What you'll need:
A blank cassette tape
A songbook (optional but highly recommended)
A tape recorder
What you'll do:
1. Choose some songs that your children love to sing and do a few practice
"runs" through the song(s).
2. Put tape in recorder and start to record. Have the children sing as many
songs as you want.
3. Consider decorating the cassette tape cover and container.
What you'll need:
Family pictures (optional)
Magazines
Markers
Permanent Marker
Crayons
A regular notebook or journal or construction paper, yarn, scissors and a holepuncher
What you'll do:
1. Decide how many topics you want to have in your notebook and make sure
you have enough pages.
2. Get your notebook ready by making sure all pages are clean and attached
well. If you are making a notebook, take several pieces of construction
paper and fold them in half. Take a hole puncher and punch three holes in
it. Then take a piece of yarn and thread it through the top hole and tie it. Repeat with the other two holes.
3. Take a permanent marker and write at the top of each page, "What We Love
About Daddy.." And let your children either draw pictures or cut out photos
from the magazine and paste them down on each page.
4. Once your child is finished, write down what the picture is at the bottom
of the page. For example, say there is a picture of a fishing pole and you
will write at the top of the page, "What We Love About Daddy Is.." And at the
bottom, "Spending time with him fishing," or "the yummy fishes he catches."
5. Once you are done be sure to have the title page decorated by the little
artists.
